UPDATE: Thanks to a generous donor, Ericka has a new wheelchair and a play yard! Thank you!
Ericka’s is survivor of animal cruelty and abuse. She was injured earlier this year when she was shot and left untreated in rural Hoke County. Paralyzed and bleeding, she miraculously survived for two weeks on her own in the woods. A passerby noticed her foraging for water in a ditch and enlisted The Haven to aid in her rescue. Her owner was located but immediately surrendered her to The Haven, stating that he was unable to afford the necessary veterinary care to treat her injuries.
Ericka is a purebred Caucasian Mountain Dog and at 2 years of age, she no longer has the use of her hind legs. Ericka is kind, gentle, and quite happy to be alive. Veterinary experts determined that she is not a candidate for surgery to correct her condition, and her paralysis will be permanent.
